Sometimes you'll have user or a group of users that you no longer want in your community.
Either they are disruptive, they have misrepresented themselves or they are no longer active and you want the remove them from the community.
There are three types of ways you can ban a user:
1. Archiving Users
2. Soft Ban
3. Hard/Global Ban
When you Archive a user. They will not appear in the user tab. They will not be able to access the community and they will be told the community has closed. They will not be able to get any rewards accrued in the community.
When you Soft Ban a user. They will not appear in the user tab. They will be able to access the community and can participate in any activities that are not private. They will not be invited to new activities or any activities that are invite only. They will be able to get any accrued rewards in the community.
When you Hard Ban a user. They will not appear in the user tab. They will not be able to access the community. They will be told they are banned from the community. They will not be able to get any rewards accrued in the community.
Archiving Users
We recommend archiving a user when you no longer want them in the community but you don't want to tell them they've been banned. Archiving them will tell them the community is closed but not that they have been banned.
To Archive a user or multiple Users. Go to the users tab and enter their email addresses in the email tab. This will sort just those users. Once you have all of your users. Click on the upside down arrow.

This will say "archive" Click that and you will be taken to a "Archive Users Page". Here you will see all users that have already been archived. Here you can also unarchive any groups of users you would like.

Select your archive name and click the "Create Archive" Button.
As a Pro Tip. We recommend to be as specific as possible when creating your archive name. Include the batch of users and the date for example "Inactive Users 4/21/19" This way if you figure out you archived the wrong member you'll be able to unarchive them much easier.
If you need to unarchive a specific user. You can go to that users profile page. To find them, search their email address and select "Archived" under Ban Reason Code
Once you have found your user. You can go into their profile and click "Restore Banned User".
This action will work with soft bans as well!

Soft Ban:
We recommend soft banning a user when you no longer want them active in the community but do not want them to think the community is closed.
To soft ban a user. Simply go into their profile and there will be a box called "Ban User". Select a reason code and if you would like to put notes you can. For example. "I banned this user because he was giving inconsistent answers on "insert survey here". Once you are done. Simply Click "Soft ban".

**If you would like to no longer have this user soft banned. You can follow the steps for unarchiving a user. This will allow the user to be fully available in the community.**
Hard Ban/Global Ban:
We recommend hard banning a user when you no longer want a user to be active in your community and feel this user is a detriment to the platform. We believe Hard Ban is the last option for a user if they are a particularly bad respondent. Additionally, if you have seen this user in other communities, reach out to your account manager with icanmakebetter and they will globally ban this user. This means the user will no longer be allowed to have an account within icanmakeitbetter throughout all communities.
To hard ban a user. Simply go into their profile and there will be a box called "Hard Ban". Select this button and the user will be hard banned.

If you have any questions about which time of ban you should use. Please don't hesitate to contact your community manager and they will be happy to help you!
