The best way to set up and manage your community with the use of incentives will very much depend on your audience (what type of people are on your community, e.g., consumers vs. business professionals) and how you intend to use the community (e.g., frequency of activities).
We do not recommend a pure "pay to play," but instead recommend an altruistic bent for the community with a fair pay-for-your-time approach.
Tango Rewards:
Icanmakeitbetter community platform includes complete panel management tools including incentive management. The platform is set up with Tango Rewards. Members can choose from a variety of e-gift cards (Amazon, Starbucks, Target, iTunes, etc.) and charities to redeem their rewards.
Points vs. Dollars:
Incentives can be set up either as points or dollars.
The point system can be set up based on your preferences. For example, you could configure it so 100 user points equal $1. Additionally, you are able to set up a minimum value until members can redeem rewards, e.g. a member must collect 500 points to redeem a $5 gift card.
The dollar system tends to be most popular and most frequently used set up on the community. This system is easy to understand and keep track of, both from an administrative and member point of view.
Activity Set Up & Paying Out:
After your community is set up for points or dollars you can start using the platform's integrated incentive management tools.
Incentives are configured in an activity’s settings before launch. During or after the survey has closed, you’ll be able to easily approve and distribute incentives to everyone who has completed the activity. After the incentive has been rewarded, members can then log in to their homepage and redeem their reward for a variety of gift cards (Amazon, Starbucks, Target, iTunes, etc.).
Non-Monetary Incentives:
In addition to monetary incentives tied to activities you should consider other rewards features as part of your community engagement strategy. This can include the following:
- Respondent-to-respondent interaction
- Prize drawings, featuring a "member of the month"
- Showcasing new products for community members
- 360 feedback loops with custom homepage tile targeting based upon an activity they have completed (e.g., you can target a messaging tile to users of a particular focus group so that the next time they login they see, "Thanks for participating in the holiday baking focus group! We have released the new flavor, and you are now the first to know! Click here to see it!")
